HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ERIC!

Eric Pond Filters website was first launched on November 20th. 2009, so I reckon it’s celebrating its fourth birthday today.

I’ve been involved in the Koi hobby for more years than I care to recall and have long-since realised that Koi enthusiasts are not too quick to take on board new ideas.

Add to this the various advice and claims given on the Internet, and it’s very little wonder as to why the young newcomers of today are extremely wary.

Admittedly, four years ago I did come up with some new ideas regarding pond filtration and still believe today that they are true revolutionary ideas but, once again, it’s difficult to get these ideas across – especially to a very wary audience.

All these ideas have been explained in fine detail on my website since day one and they can still be viewed today by anyone at any time.

It’s pointless explaining them all again because they are all readily available.

So instead for the fourth Birthday celebrations, I’ve decided to highlight some of the ponds that I’m proud to be able to call ‘Eric Ponds’.

I say ‘some of the ponds’ because many of my filters have been sold through overseas distributors and others have been sold to individuals who have given me no feedback to date.

There are also many other UK users of the Eric One system that I really need photos for, apologies are in order here.

These are in no particular order but please enjoy what are to date –

‘ERIC’S GREATEST HITS’!

This is a very formal 8,000-gallon (36,000 litres) in-ground pond in France that uses four centrally placed bottom drains in the pond base. Each bottom drain line is connected to its own Eric TWO filter system.

The only Eric filter to date that’s been bought by a person named Eric! This 12,000-gallon two-drain pond is in southern Spain. We removed the earlier filtration units and replaced them with one Eric Three and one Eric Four.

I designed this formal pond for a friend of mine in Penang, Malaysia. It has four bottom drains and holds 16,000-gallons of water; the substantial roof is needed to protect the Koi from sunburn.

A tiny pond of 2,500-gallons in Singapore with one bottom drain and an Eric Three filter system.

This 11,400-gallon system is a perfect circle built in the northwest of England. There is only one central bottom drain that has two 3” off-takes that lead to two Eric Four filters.

A huge and formal 60,000-gallon indoor system near Detroit USA. This holds over 140 large and classy Koi. Twelve bottom drains and 24 Eric Four systems provide the filtration.

A 4000-gallon system in Cheshire, England with one bottom drain. An Eric Four filter replaced the existing filter system.

This 15,000-gallon formal Koi pond is running near the Merseyside area UK. Four bottom drains supply four Eric Three filters.

This system is near London UK, it holds 5,500-gallons with two bottom drains and two Eric Three filters.

Another Eric pond in France, 3 bottom drains and three Eric Three units filter 12,000-gallons of water.

Only 2,200-gallons in this pond in Greater Manchester UK. It has two 3” bottom drains supplying two concrete Eric filters.

A lady near Bristol UK owns this formal pond; one bottom drains supplies one Eric Four filter system.

Another large formal system in Penang, Malaysia holding 16,000-gallons of water, four bottom drains and four Eric Three filters. Again the substantial roof is needed to protect the Koi.

‘Queni Koi’ is a Koi dealership in central England that specialises in growing small Koi to larger sizes. There are nine ponds each containing less than 1,000-gallons of water and a pump-fed Eric One unit is on each of these ponds.

A 3,500-gallon system near Wigan, UK – the earlier multi-bay filter was replaced by an Eric Three system. Two bottom drains supply a prime vortex unit and the Eric filter follows this.

Another system filtered by three Eric units with the boxes built in concrete. It holds 17,000-gallons of water and three bottom drains supply the filters. After realising the high costs involved in building concrete boxes I decided to make my own units.

A lady in the south of France owns this 3,150-gallon Koi pond that comprises of one bottom drain and an Eric Four filter system. High temperatures in the area produce speedy growth and there are now over thirty large Koi in the system.

Close to the Cotswolds UK, this 2,200-gallon system is quite unique. There are two bottom drains on this very narrow pond and the Eric Three filter has two 4” inlets. The owner uses one drain line for 24 hours and by moving the standpipe over he uses the second drain line for 24 hours.

I love the design of this system, which was designed and built by the owner. The pond holds around 4,000-gallons but with no bottom drain. We removed the existing multi-bay and bead system then replaced it with an Eric Four filter with water supplied from a side feed in the pond wall.

Another 4,000-gallon Koi pond in the London area with one drain and one Eric Four filter. A four-bay vortex system was removed before the Eric system could be installed.

This formal semi-raised system is in Dorset, UK and holds approximately 10,000-gallons of water with two bottom drains and two Eric Four filters.

A very ‘Koi-Kichi’ person near Dijon, France owns this formal 12,000-gallon Koi pond system with four bottom drains and four Eric Three filters.

Another French system that still needed completion when I took this shot. I believe it holds 12,000 gallons with three bottom drains and three Eric Three filters.

Only a 2,700-gallon pond but maintained perfectly by another ‘Koi-Kichi’ owner in the London area. A single bottom drain plus an Eric Three unit provides filtration.

Hailed by many as ‘The Pond of a Lifetime’, this 55,000-gallon system is quite breathtaking. Ten custom bottom drains supply ten Eric Four filters AND the entire system is fully automated and computer-controlled!

This large 16,000-gallon system in Lincolnshire is still under construction and will also be fully automated when completed. It is an in-ground pond, part formal and part informal.

Situated in the Yorkshire Dales, this formal and perfectly circular 5,000-gallon Koi pond was re-modelled two years ago with two Eric Three units after the old vortex units had been removed.

A true disciple of Eric Filter systems owns this pond near Gibraltar. He contacted me four years ago to tell me he needed to remove his existing filtration system that was causing serious problems with his Koi. We removed the existing filter systems and replaced them with four Eric Three units. The pond has three bottom drains.

A very formal and perfectly circular 24,000-gallon Koi pond built in the courtyard of a stately home in Lincolnshire. The central bottom drain is huge with three 4” off-takes that are later ‘teed’ into six lines to supply water to the six Eric Four filter systems.

The full story of this can be seen in detail on this website but it is long and very detailed. Basically I took a huge gamble to determine if I could filter my 16,500-gallon pond with four independent drain lines by using only one Eric Four filter plus one pump and one air pump. Thankfully, it works perfectly……….whew!

………………………………………………………………………………

As of right now, my Eric filter systems are running Koi ponds in Norway, Denmark, Holland, France, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, USA, Canada and of course the UK.

Finally, I can’t recall receiving one single complaint serious enough the mention and I’ve still not been advised of any new outbreaks of shimi and hikui by those using them.

Thanks for reading – Waddy.
