Progress with the new koi pond filter design – X-Stream!

Latest News 31/07/12

Things are moving along nicely now with the new design, the prototype operates exactly as expected both mechanically and biologically but it’s only after seeing and studying the prototype can we find areas where final production costs can be reduced without any detriment to the actual performance of the unit.

Here’s how the biological stage will be on the final production unit –

As with the larger Eric units, the cartridge blocks can be removed for inspection and replaced very quickly. They can be turned upside down and their positions along the streams are all interchangeable.

This shows the very first fill of the unit with mains tap water and the maximum flow we could get was a ‘trickle’ of only 5 litres per minute – I need a minimum flow of around 25 litres per minute when running correctly on a pond.

I must point out here that this model should only be installed in indoor situations such as a garden shed, a greenhouse, a garage or on an indoor pond where it’s protected from the elements.

High winds will produce loss of water and in winter periods it will produce water temperature drops.

In view of this there is another version under current production that can be installed on both outdoor and indoor ponds.

The operation of this unit is identical to that of the 4-tier stream shown above, it’s simply a different layout.

Hopefully, in a few more days I’ll be able to show shots of both units and explain the operation in much finer detail.

By then I should also have firm price details of both models.

At a later date I’m planning video footage of both units when operating on actual Koi ponds.

Once again, they are pump-fed units ideal for ponds without bottom drains or to replace unsatisfactory existing systems where excavation costs are not an option.

They are another slant on Eric Koi Pond Filtration using exactly the same media and flow principles as the larger units. These are additional units to the existing range in order to give users some other choices.

Oh, almost forgot – both these units will carry the name ‘X-STREAM’.

I came up with the name all by myself – and I’m rather proud of it, as it’s the perfect description!

Waddy.
